ESIA criteriaThe ESIA criteria have been inspired both from the work of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels (RSB), the Better Sugarcane Initiative (BSI) and SA 8000 .
The Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels is an international initiative bringing together farmers, companies, non-governmental organizations, experts, governments, and inter-governmental agencies concerned with ensuring the sustainability of biofuels production and processing.
The Roundtable is hosting a series of meetings, teleconferences, and online discussions with the aim of achieving global, multistakeholder consensus around the principles and criteria of sustainable biofuels production.
The Better Sugarcane Initiative is a multi-stakeholder collaboration whose mission is to promote measurable improvements in the key environmental and social impacts of sugarcane production and primary processing.
To achieve this, the Better Sugarcane Initiative is committed to engaging stakeholders in a constructive dialogue to define, develop and encourage the adoption and implementation of practical and verifiable performance-based measures and baselines for sugarcane production and primary processing on a global scale.
